As a business owner, you know that visibility is key to building your authority and getting more clients. But it’s not always easy to achieve. These seven tactics will help you get seen by the right people and make a powerful impact online.

Position Your Brand for Opportunities

This is the #1 mistake I see too many make. They start promoting offers before they position their brand. It was an expensive lesson I learned in 2008 when I started my business. A lot has changed, so here are the two places to start.

Social platforms

Everywhere you look, people are staring at their phones. Here’s what I tell my clients who are overwhelmed by all the social on social media. Pick one or two social media platforms to master, post content, and engage with your followers consistently before moving on to another. Being on five different platforms and posting once a month won’t increase your visibility, and it’s bad for your brand. Pick 2 platforms to start based on where your target audience spends the most time. If it’s not a platform you are comfortable with, then take time to learn the ins and outs so you can maximize your visibility strategy.


Make sure you have your own website that includes a good home page following the storybrand framework, your services, bio and numerous ways to connect with you easily. Your website is where people can find you when they do a search for your name. Stay connected by offering free gifts to build your email list and exposure by sending valuable content on a consistent basis. Be sure to include links to your social media platforms.

First impressions are made in a split second so spend time positioning your brand before implementing the next steps.

Create a Cross-Platform Profile

Every social platform gives you the opportunity to promote your business through your bio. Everyone who sees your social media account will evaluate it quickly upon first glance. Your social profiles are one of the best ways to increase visibility when crafted correctly.

Start by creating a profile that clearly conveys who you are and who you best serve so your target audience recognizes that you are someone they should follow. “I help ____ do _____”

Depending on the number of characters, your bio can also allow people a glimpse of your personality. LinkedIn’s About Section gives you 2000 characters to tell a story of how you help clients achieve their goals as well as highlight your experience and expertise. 

Instagram’s bio is short with 150 characters. Note – when Instagram counts your characters, it registers more than just the amount of letters you use. A ‘character’ actually refers to everything including punctuation, numbers, and most importantly, emojis! Emojis look great in Instagram bios, but they take up way more space than you would think. All emojis are equivalent to at least 2 characters, but some can be equivalent to 3. 

To maximize visibility, create a free account. You have the option to create links for your social platforms, website, freebies, offers, podcast, blog and more. This is one of the BEST an most underused tactics to get followers/visitors to learn more about you in other places.

Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook profiles give you a way to include an external link so use this to your advantage!

Engage With Your Followers First

When you’re looking for ways to increase your visibility, it’s important to focus on quality over quantity. It doesn’t matter how many followers you have if they’re not the right people.

If you want more engagement from your followers, then engage with them first! Instead of waiting for your target audience to like and comment on your content – go to their profile, do a quick review and then comment on their posts/reels/stories/pins/videos first.

Interact in Groups and Forums

Interaction in groups and forums is one of the easiest and best strategies to increase your visibility by interacting with targeted audiences. The more people you get to comment on posts, the more likely it is that other people will see you. Not sure where to find them? Check out these ideas:

  • Join relevant Facebook groups – do a keyword search on FB to find groups in your niche
  • Check out relevant forums like Quora and Reddit
  • Follow relevant hashtags on Instagram and then Engage with other people’s content in your niche

When people see your comments regularly, they’ll become more familiar with your name and start to look for your content.

Get Interviewed on Podcasts and Other Shows

Guest blogging or podcasting is a great way to get your name and your work in front of a new audience. When you’re interviewed on a show, you instantly become more credible in the eyes of your target audience.

The best way to get started is to do a Google search for Podcasts in your niche and make a list of podcasts you’d like to appear on. You can also do a keyword search on iTunes, Spotify or other podcast hosting platforms. Then reach out to shows that you listen to and see if they’re looking for guests.

Don’t just wing it. Have a short bio ready to go and be clear about the topics you speak on and, most importantly, the audience takeaways. The worst thing they can do is say No, but it’s always worth the ask.

Remember, the key to visibility is consistency. The more you ask, the more opportunities will come your way, so don’t give up and keep moving forward with your visibility strategy.

If you are really inspired, create your own podcast and become the host. You can increase your own visibility by helping others become more visible at the same time.

Connect with Influencers and Power Partners

One of the fastest ways to increase your reach and visibility is with the help of influencers and power partners. These people with a large audience can help promote your content and get your name in front of more people.

Think about who would be a good fit for your business and then search their online profiles to learn as much as possible before reaching out. You want to look at:

  • Who is following them
  • Who is commenting on their posts
  • Who is sharing their content

When you reach out, be sure to mention something specific that you like about their work. This will show that you’re not just reaching out to anyone, but that you’ve actually taken the time to get to know them and their audience.

The worst they can do is say no, but the best case scenario is that you form a mutually beneficial partnership.

Map out Your Visibility Strategy

Posting randomly on social media is not an effective visibility strategy. You need to be strategic about when and where to post to see results. Here’s how to create a visibility strategy that works:

  • Start by mapping out your goals for visibility. What do you want to achieve?
  • Determine the best platforms where your target audience is spending the most time. PICK 2
  • Then, determine your visibility methods.
  • PICK 2 and Content should be one of them….
  • Create a content calendar that outlines what kind of content you’ll post and when.

Finally, make sure you’re consistent with your visibility strategy. The more consistent you are, the better results you’ll see.

PRO- TIP: Short-form video content is the fastest way to increase your visibility and reach a much wider audience than just your followers. Create 1 reel and then download it before you upload it so you can use it on multiple platforms.

The visibility tactics we’ve shared are just the tip of the iceberg. If you want to see real results, you need to be consistent with your visibility strategy. Pick one or two visibility-boosting activities that you can do every day, and make it a part of your daily routine. The more consistent you are, the better results you’ll see.
